This month the Horse of the Month is Archie (Oct 2013)

Archie was born in 1997. He is a skewbald gelding 15.3 HH and he is an Irish Draught Horse.

Archie came to the Washington Riding Centre in 2011 and was initially on loan to us.  His owner Jill had owned him since he was very young and wanted to make sure he settled in a new home.

Jill mainly did long distance rides on Archie and spent up to six hours at a time roaming the countryside.

In 2011 Archie was 14yrs old and Jill felt that the long rides were perhaps getting too much for him.  She thought of possible alternate jobs for him and after a lot of investigation Jill came up with the WRC.

Archie settled into his new role like a duck to water.  He loves the attention and has a brilliant work ethic.  He has now been with here for 2 years and I can honestly say I have never seen that horse with his ears back.  He is the most pleasant, affable horse you could ever meet and we are so lucky to have him.

This year Jill 'gifted' him to the Centre so we are very happy to say he is here to stay.
